Mary Hawkins

After working for more than a decade in public interest law, Mary left the legal field to raise two sons, care for aging parents, and serve on the board of a family-owned business. Her strong desire to have a positive impact on the world never faded and she recently began to dedicate her time to philanthropy. Over the past three years with the help of The Philanthropic Initiative and through membership in NEID Global, Mary and her husband, David, have awarded more than thirty grants from their Donor Advised Fund, mostly to small locally led grassroots organizations focused on the environment, climate justice, and racial/economic justice. Through her philanthropic work, Mary was introduced to impact investing and Invest for Better. She joined Invest for Betterto learn how values-aligned investing can maximize the impact of her philanthropy by transforming all of her family’s assets into a vehicle for building a better world. Mary is currently in the process of moving her family’s assets to impact investments, starting with her family’s DAF. Mary lives in Boston and Maine with her husband, David, and has two adult sons.
